Medical flights: When every minute counts
Ambulance and transplantation flights take off and touch down in Kiel-Holtenau
(Kiel, 5th September 2017) Medical flights from and to Kiel-Holtenau are perfectly organized. On Tuesday, there were two transplantation flights that took off from Kiel-Holtenau. The aircraft of the companies Aero-West and Heli-Flight (Piper Cheyenne resp. Cessna 441) were on standby as from the early morning in order to bring the university hospital teams to Hanover and Baden Baden. Last year, Kiel-Holtenau counted no less than 45 of these lifesaving flights. Ambulance flights from Kiel-Holtenau are mostly operated by fixed wing aircraft or helicopters, e.g. for taking patients to the ambulances or specialist hospitals in Kiel. So recently, an SAR helicopter came from Sylt and landed in Kiel in order to relocate a patient from the island to the state capital. Ambulance flights are nowadays operated among others by charity organisations, motorclubs, private providers and also by the German Airforce.
